Managing authorization holds helps secure funds on a guest's credit card without charging them immediately. This ensures coverage for potential damages or additional reservation costs.

An authorization hold freezes funds on a guest's credit card. You can charge or release these funds manually during the hold period. The hold expires automatically after seven days, or five days for Visa credit cards. Stripe fees apply only when you charge the held funds.

You can authorize a hold for an amount up to the total payout value, and the total payout updates automatically.

If a reservation's remaining balance is fully accounted for, the option to add an authorization hold does not appear. The hold amount cannot exceed the outstanding balance. To add an authorization hold for an amount larger than the outstanding balance, increase the balance by adding an extra invoice item to the reservation.

Follow the steps below to add an authorization hold.

Note:

You cannot add an authorization hold with a Virtual Credit Cards (VCC).

Step by step:

  1. Sign in to your Guesty account.
  2. In the side navigation menu, click icon Reservations.
  3. Select the relevant reservation.
  4. In the left submenu, click Payments.
  5. In the top-right corner, click the vertical ellipsis and select Add authorization hold.
  6. In the side panel, enter the hold details.
  7. Click Hold now or Save depending on whether you set the hold for a current or future date.
